Guess Who Extra

From LoveToKnow BoardGames

The game of Guess Who gets a much needed face lift as it moves into the computer age with Guess Who Extra.

Plenty of Faces

Guess Who Classic

Guess Who is essentially a game of hide and go seek wrapped up in a fun yet educational package. Children learn deductive reasoning skills and vocabulary (without even knowing it!) as they ask questions about their opponent's mystery character.

In classic Guess Who, the players receive a plastic base containing pictures of characters. Each player chooses (or can be dealt) a card containing a face that matches one of the people on their base. Your job is to find out who your opponent chose.

As you ask questions, your opponent will either say yes or no, and as answers are given, characters are eliminated. You can ask any question you can think of as long as it is succinct and to the point like "Is your character male?", "Does your character have glasses?" or "Is your person balding?" As field of characters dwindles, you increase your odds of guessing your opponent's character, and if you do, you win the game.

Guess Who Extra

This is the version of Guess Who that any parent would love to have for their child just starting out in school or as a first game.

The Characters

Those familiar with the classic game of Guess Who will not be disappointed because all of the original characters are back again. Some are a little more stylized, but they’re there! Besides the usual suspects from the classic, there are a ton more new faces to tease you--120 new faces! This means there are 144 characters in this version of the game. The characters are attached to 1 of 6 themes so you can have the classic characters one game, animals the next and even aliens!

Going Electronic

Guess Who Extra is another classic game from Milton Bradley to enter into the computer age. It joins the likes of Clue, Monopoly and the Game of Life. This new version of the game features easy "Yes" and "No" buttons colored green and red (symbolizes stop and go). These buttons allow you to answer your opponent's questions easily, and the game remembers. Besides the simple yes and no buttons, the game adds some more bells and whistles by providing lights and sounds.

Portability

Instead of having two bases to deal with, you have one unit that has everything self-contained. You unlatch the game and fold it over and you're ready to go. This makes it easy to take with on family vacations and fun for long road trips. Since everything is in one unit the game makes for a great travel edition without the hindrance of a smaller size. The unit uses small windows to close over the faces of the characters once they have been eliminated.

Game Perks

The new Guess Who Extra has a lot to offer new and old players alike:

  • One unit holds everything you need in order to play the game
  • Character slider them cards
  • Character cards
  • Four new ways to play including timed
  • Yes and No buttons
  • Automatic score tracking
  • Facial recognition learning
  • Increased math skills
  • Deductive reasoning

Unfortunately the game does not come with batteries (2 AA), but other than that the game is playable straight from the box.

Playing the Game

This new version of an old classic follows the same rules of play as the original. There is no learning curve, and the game is ready (with the exception of batteries) out of the box.

Who Should Play

The game is suitable for nearly everyone, but the manufacturer lists the age as 6 years old and up. Adults can enjoy playing this game with their children and can help them learn as they go.

Despite the game having a recommended age of 6, the game can be played, in some way, by those that are younger. Early stage development can be triggered by faces, lights and sounds.

Older children can enjoy the simple complexities of the game and in the process learn about facial recognition and increase math skills through deductive reasoning.
