Hulk Smash
From LoveToKnow BoardGames
Hulk Smash is a children's board game that takes place in New York City. While the game is based on the Marvel character the Incredible Hulk, Play-Doh is a large contributor because one of the main things you do in Hulk Smash is make little cars out of clay with the mold case. Since the Incredible Hulk appeals to children and adults alike, this can be a great family board game.
Included Contents
Because of the nature of the game, there are a few pieces of equipment that come included in the box.
- The Gameboard
- 9 Cardboard Buildings. They are loosely based on New York City buildings so they can really be considered as general skyscrapers.
- The Hulk Smasher (a big Hulk fist)
- The Hulk Fist Mold Case (for making the cars)
- 12 Smash 'em cards
- 4 containers of molding clay (Play-Doh colors Red, Black, Green, Yellow)
- 2 dice
- Spanish and English rules.
Hulk Smash Rules and Goals
The first thing you do is mold cars together with the Hulk Fish mold. Your ultimate goal is to be the first one to make it out of the city with one of your cars. This is done by rolling the die and moving your car those number of spaces. Of course, there will be obstacles to your journey: the other players. You and they will be drawing cards that will allow the cars to be smashed. As dutiful opponents you must smash the other cars before they make it out of the city instead of you.
You must keep making your cars, rolling the die, and smash the other cars until someone wins the game.
Game Time
Hulk Smash lets you play in a reasonable amount of time: anywhere from ten to fifteen minutes. If less cars get smashed, then playing time is increased, but because the cards determine which cars get smashed, it is possible that two, three, or four cars could be smashed on one turn.
If you want to increase the time at all, then add a rule that two or even three cars get made when it's time to make a car. That way there could be an outrageous amount of cars on the board at one time.
To decrease the amount of time you play the game, or to play a version called Hulk Smash blitz, then double the amount that appears on the dice. Games may then last around five minutes. Another way is to not put any buildings on the gameboard, since they also determine when and if cars get smashed.
Keeping Care of the Game
Since there are fragile and perishable parts, it's imperative that you take good care of the game. The buildings are 3-D, so make sure they are placed in the box correctly so they don't get Hulk Smashed themselves.
The Play-Doh will dry up over time if left out. Don't lose the plastic containers because they are a small size and are hard to find. You may find some at a party goods store where they carry Play-Doh containers in party favor packs. Otherwise, just don't lose the ones that come with the game.
You should not worry about the actual gameboard too much because it can hold its own even if you plan on playing this game a lot. The same can be said of the mold casing and the Hulk Smash fist, though you may want to make sure that players don't get out of hand with smashing the cars with brute force. It's tough, but it is still plastic.
Who Can Play
The game is rated for ages seven and up. Both children and adults will find this is a fun and silly game to play together. It can be a great game for counting and healthy competition or just a good change of fun for family game night.
Multitudes of Fun
One last variation you can play is with more than four players. Just use other colors of Play-Doh to add to the game. Originally there are four colors, but there are many more colors of Play-Doh that you can purchase as well. Check it out! Your family may love this game!
