Kids Board Games

From LoveToKnow BoardGames

As a parent we want to educate our kids and do it in a fun way, and one good way is to buy kids board games. These games are not only fun, but they also teach kids something as they play.

Children Playing Board Games

Fun for the Whole Family

Just because a board game is made with a child in mind does not mean it is any less fun for teenagers or adults. There are plenty of games from big game companies like Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers that are made for adults but are also released in kid friendly versions. Games like Clue, for instance, have Clue Jr. and there are questions with kids in mind in Disney Trivial Pursuit. These games can easily include the smaller kids, teens and tweens while offering fun for the adults.

Kids Board Games

The list that follows represents the top 10 kids board games worldwide.

Looping Louie: Published by Milton Bradley this is a game for up to 4 players ages 4 and up with a play time of only 10 minutes! The game is action-based and promotes a child’s dexterity. The game consists of a battery-powered motor with a plane on a boom that circles the board. The nature of the game requires you to protect your egg chips, and you need to use dexterity in order to knock the plane away (and hopefully to someone else's pile) with the lever in front of you. The person with the most chips left at the end of the game wins.

GuloGulo: Rio Grande Games published this game with 3-4 players in mind but can accommodate up to 6 for ages 5 and up though children as young as 3 can play. It takes about 20 minutes in total to play, and players assume the role of a Gulo (wolverine). Their goal is to rescue a Gulo baby that got caught by the swamp vulture.

Tier auf Tier: Though German, this game published by HABA is easy enough to understand by anyone. It's a simple stacking game using wooden animals and takes about 15 minutes to play and is meant for children ages 3 and up and promotes dexterity.

Chicken Cha Cha Cha: This memory game by Rio Grande Games takes 20 minutes to play and is meant for 2-4 players but is best played with 3 or 4 children (or adults) ages 3 and up. Players are given a chicken pawn and a card, and they have to steal feathers from other players until revealing one that matches the one in front of their chicken pawn.

Nacht der Magier: The board game is very unique in appearance but simple in its premise. The board rests on top of a platform that is full of wooden discs as well as other pieces like trees. In the center is a ring of fire covered by a disc. Cauldrons surround that disc, and the goal is to move your cauldron to the fire ring by moving the pieces around the board. You move pieces, in one continuous movement, until something falls off the board. You will hear it fall because the game is meant to be played in the dark as all the pieces (except trees and other things) glow. Once something falls, your turn is over, and it continues like this until someone's cauldron enters the ring. Children aged 4 and up can play the game, and it is meant to be played by up to 4 players.

Dancing Eggs: Another German offering from publisher HABA, this game is meant for 2-5 players ages 5 and up. The game itself looks like an egg box filled with eggs, and players have to get the most points to win. A red dice is rolled, and depending on the roll, they can do certain things like take an egg or drop one they already acquired on the table. When an egg is won, the white die is rolled, and that determines which egg they take. This makes a great party game for children and adults.

Viva Topo!: Rio Grande Games publishes this game for 2-4 players ages 4 and up with a play time of around 20 minutes. Players take a game piece mouse, and the goal is to collect the cheese. A cat chases the mice, removing them from the game.

Midnight Party: Made by Ravensburger, Midnight Party is played by up to 8 players (more players mean more strategy) ages 4 and up, though very suitable for adults as a light, fun game. The players control guests at a party that are being chased by Hugo the Ghost. The dice are rolled, and guests move if a number comes up, and Hugo moves if the Hugo space comes up. At the end of the game, fright points are tallied, and the player with less fright points wins.

Schildkroetenrennen: You are turtles trying to get to the finish line in order to get the salad. It is played by 2-5 players ages 5 and up.

The aMAZEing Labyrinth: Another offering from Ravensburger, the game is intended for 1-4 players ages 6 and up. Tiles are fixed to the board game with remaining tiles sliding in to create the maze. Players take turns sliding tiles in and out of the board.
