From LoveToKnow BoardGames
Being one of the most loved board games in history, Monopoly has seen many television shows and movies being used as themes for the game, and in 2007 Monopoly Clone Wars was released.
Monopoly: The Cult Phenomenon
Monopoly has been at the forefront of Parker Brothers games for many years with an estimated 500 million players of Monopoly the world over. The game of Monopoly first came on the scene in 1935 as a creation of Charles B. Darrow. The story goes that Darrow used to play a similar game on his kitchen table and created his own version. He would make the games and sell them from his home until he eventually presented it to Parker Brothers. Unfortunately for Darrow, they rejected the game citing over 20 design errors.
In true entrepreneurial fashion Darrow never gave up and continued making them by hand and selling from his home. He become very successful in his business, and evetually Parker Brothers gave the game another look and subsequently bought the rights to it.
The Monopoly formula has been used many times to create different themes based on television, movies, sports and even pop culture versions of the game. Other game companies have also used the same general principle to create games like Horseopoly and Make-Your-Own-Opoly. Parker Brothers has even taken the game into the electronic age with its banking edition.
Monopoly continues to be one of the best sellers that Parker Brothers has had. They continue to create new versions of the game to keep it fresh and enticing for the players. There even those that set out to collect every version of Monopoly that is created, and as long as there are popular movies and television there will most likely be new versions of the game. Monopoly Clone Wars is one such version.
