New Board Games
From LoveToKnow BoardGames
Shopping during the holidays can be a hectic affair, and if you are shopping for board game lovers, it can twice as difficult since many new board games can't be found at the usual retail locations.
The Usual Board Games
If the board game lover in your life is all about the classics like Monopoly, RISK and even Chess, then it won't be so bad shopping for them. Every year the big companies (Milton Bradley, Parker Brothers etc.) release their usual stock of games as new board games with different themes including:
- Monopoly Here and Now: World Edition
- Transformers RISK
- The Game of Life: Wizard of Oz
- The Game of Life: Pirates of the Caribbean
- Monopoly Electronic Banking Edition
- Clue: Hitchcock 100th Birthday Edition
- and many moreā¦
Although the board game changes to match the new theme, the rules stay remarkably the same despite additional, alternative rules. In some circumstances there are added rules to match the theme of the game. Any of the above board games can be found at nearly every Wal-Mart, Target or K-Mart in your city as well as a myriad of online stores like Amazon.
Unique and New Board Games
Not all board game players go for the redone classic game and may, instead, like games of a more unique nature. Games by independent publishers and distributors are prime examples. They may also like games of a more unique nature from larger companies like the Cranium line of products, or they may even love foreign games like Settlers of Caatan. The following board games are new and unique gift ideas for any board game lover. You can find these primarily online and at retail stores that specialize in gaming.
Playing God: This unique game is getting a lot of press recently due to its controversial nature involving religions of the world. Players assume the role of a god trying to control the world with their particular religion. This is not a game for those with a thin skin in regards to religion or satire.
War on Terror: This is a game that was developed in the United Kingdom and is not readily found in the United States due to its controversial game play dealing with politics and terrorism. Players assume the role of a country and take turns working as a terrorist trying to dominate the world. War on Terror is not a game for those with a weak heart or those who lack a sense of humor especially as it pertains to religion, politics and world affairs. The game is vastly satirical in nature and pokes fun at political and religious ignorance.
Munchkin Quest: Steve Jackson Games brings their popular Munchkin card game to the realm of board games. You create a dungeon as you move your characters in this tile game. Your goal is to kill monsters, take treasure and backstab your friends.
Deadlands Board Game: The popular roleplaying game, Deadlands, is going to be released by Twilight Creations as a board game. Players will be thrown in to the Deadlands world where they will traverse all the bad that it has to offer.
Age of Conan: Robert E. Howard's classic tale of the barbarian Conan that spawned a hot film franchise now is a board game. You will command armies, create intrigue, and wield magic in an attempt to rule.
Android: Another offering by Fantasy Flight Games, Android is a game of murder, intrigue and conspiracy. The mechanics of the game are such that no two players (playing as detectives) will play alike.
Battlestar Galactica: You assume the role of 1 of 10 characters from the hit Sci-Fi Channel show Battlestar Galactica. You will struggle for survival aboard the Galactica while battling thru mistrust and embroiled in steep intrigue. Each player's character has his or her own abilities as well as weaknesses. Players must work together in order to save humanity, though any of the players may secretly be a Cylon working against the others.
Last Night on Earth: Woodinvale is a sleepy town that is awakened by screams of terror. When the fog rolls in, what comes with it is an undead horde of zombies. This fast-paced game of horror movie action is for 2 to 6 players 12 and up with a play time of 60 to 90 minutes. Players work cooperatively in any number of game scenarios.
There are dozens upon dozens of new board games out on the market currently, and many more will be released over the next few months. A great list can be found on Amazon's new release page under toys and games.
