Prom Night Board Games

From LoveToKnow BoardGames

So after the big dance and you’re ready to settle in for the night, you might need some prom night board games to keep the fun going. Obviously, games that can get everyone involved are the best, whether you have 2 people or 12 people. A lot of the classic games can be played with teams, while there are games, such as Yahtzee or Risk that are perfect for a smaller crowd. A crowd of 10 or so is more likely and it’s easy to find party games these days.

Scene It?

Scene It? is a great prom night board game because you can play as individuals or teams. Teams are excellent if you have a big group. Scene It? tests your movie trivia knowledge in fun little mini-games. Sometimes you will have to watch a movie clip and answer questions after or you might have to figure out a movie title based on weird pictures. One of the best games is similar to Wheel of Fortune where letters slowly appear one, two or three at a time on a grid and you have to guess the title of a movie. There are games for everyone to enjoy on Scene It? and there are many types of Scene It?s. You can play specialized versions like James Bond, Disney, Harry Potter, and even HBO.

The Prom Night Board Game Catchphrase

Catchphrase is probably one of the best team games that you can play on prom night. The electronic version is extremely fun. The phrase or word is displayed on the electronic device and you must say clues until your team yells out the answer. You can pass on a phrase or word for the next one, but the object is not to get caught with the device when the timer goes off. You earn no points this way and will get eliminated quickly. If you have a big group you have to entertainment, the electronic version of Catchphrase is a great large group party game.

Monopoly

This classic game will definitely pass the time through the night. Playing Monopoly on prom night is best with a small crowd, but it is possible to play in teams. The basic rule is that you travel around the board buying, selling, and trading property in order to amass your fortune to be the last person standing. One variation of the game is that whoever you knock out must then “work for you”. He can be your advisor or whatever you need for your team.

Trivial Pursuit

For a more challenging prom night board game, play Trivial Pursuit. Travel around the board answering questions in order to get pie pieces to fill your token. The game only comes with six tokens, but you can easily play teams with this game. Having more than one person on a team also helps with the questions because some of the questions are difficult. A version of Trivial Pursuit that you can play is the Pop Culture DVD one. Gameplay is similar to the original but the questions relate to pop culture and some of the questions may be contained on the DVD. This version is a little easier and may be more fun for the larger groups.

As Long as It’s Fun

You can make any game a great prom night board game to play. Yes, even Stratego can be fun. What’s important is to get everyone playing. Try to have a good variety of games to play. If you have the above four on hand, there should be plenty of difference so that there is something for everyone. Sometimes, though, you have a few in the group who won’t want to play the party game you have selected. You send them on their own with Scrabble or Boggle, or another game that needs a few to play. Then, as you’re playing your wonderful party game, they will see all the fun and join you. Think about it: Scene It? versus Scrabble? Scene It? wins every time.
