Seinfeld Board Games

From LoveToKnow BoardGames

The show about nothing has finally spawned two Seinfeld board games for any fan of the show, serious trivia nut or casual observer alike. Either of these games could make a perfect gift for a fan of Seinfeld and board games.

TV Show Board Games

There aren’t many television shows that have enough of a following or a popularity that supports having a board game made about them. The Office has a board game about as does Friends, but classic TV shows have also had their fill of simple board games like Dukes of Hazard. Seinfeld is arguably one of the most popular sitcoms in the history of TV, and that popularity has finally been transferred to two Seinfeld board games:

  1. Seinfeld Scene-It Deluxe Edition
  2. In Pursuit of Nothing

Board game based off new shows like The Office, Friends and Seinfeld are games that require a deep knowledge of the show and its characters. Games based off old shows have usually been simple roll the dice and move your piece type stuff. At least in the case of Scene-It a player that has some casual knowledge of the subject matter could actually win.

Seinfeld Board Games

The show about nothing is how Jerry Seinfeld sold his TV idea, and after many seasons on the air and quite a few off, the show is still being talked about so it makes sense that a game is made from it.

Seinfeld Scene-It

This version of Scene-It is a very fun way to tease your brain about things from the hit show. The best perk to Seinfeld Scene-It is that you do not have to be a huge trivia buff to play it.

Rules

The rules are available as either a quick start guide or as an on-screen tutorial. Basically you choose which piece you want to be, roll to see who goes first then continue around the board answering a myriad of questions with your television remote.

The Questions

As the players move around the board you will have to answer questions associated with the Seinfeld television show, scenes, characters and pop culture surrounding it. One dice you roll tells you how many spaces to move, and the other will tell you what type of question you will be asked called "challenges". If you get a challenge right, you get to roll and go again until you get a question wrong.

Winning

Players can win the game by entering the winner's circle and beating all the other players in an All-Play to win challenge or by getting past the Final Cut Challenge.

Alternative Play: If playing the actual board game isn't up your alley or you just don't want the formality of it, then you can select the party play version. The DVD shuffles thru the various scenes on the disc along with some challenge questions automatically so you can host a Seinfeld night or something to pass the time.

What you get in the box:

  • The game DVD
  • Flextime game board
  • 4 metal tokens
  • 1 six-sided die
  • 1 eight-sided category die
  • 16 Buzz cards
  • 175 trivia cards
  • Collectible tin to store it all

In Pursuit of Nothing

This game represents Seinfeld in a more "trivial pursuit" style than the game of Scene-It. This game is easy and fun as long as you actually know the show. It's like playing Disney Trivial Pursuit without ever have seen a Disney movie. Since Seinfeld is known as the show about nothing, this is where the title for this game originates.

Game Premise

The point of the game is to see which player can contribute absolutely nothing to George’s tab at lunch. The players compete against one another in feats of trivia about the show as well as jumbled words and nickname challenges.

Game Board

The board itself is really unique and is shaped like a lunch counter complete with booths. The trivia cards and token pieces get placed on the table top as you play. The board is based off an episode of Seinfeld where Kramer has the idea to make a coffee table book that is an actual coffee table.

Availability

At this point in time, the game is only available at the In Pursuit of Nothing website making this game hard to find.

Game Play

  • George is, as usual, broke, and so each of you have decided to put in $2.00 to his tab.
  • Players are asked questions of various difficulty levels with assigned point values.
  • For each turn, a player selects a category, then the DVD chooses a question at random
  • If answered correctly, then that point value is given to another player thus making his or her contribution to pay off George's tab more.
  • If the question is answered incorrectly, then another player gives the answering player the point value.
  • A player wins if he or she is the first to officially contribute nothing to the tab.
