Single Player Card Games
From LoveToKnow BoardGames
Single player card games are also called Solitaire games. These type of games use a deck of cards (some games require two or more decks) with different goals in mind. Sometimes you must create piles of cards in ascending or descending order or clear a stack of cards with different techniques. Any draw piles are typically randomized, giving the player an infinite number of ways to play. A solo player may not win each time, making single player card games one of the more addicting styles of games to play. With so many types of Solitaire games available, you are sure to find one you enjoy.
Klondike
Klondike is one of the most popular versions of solitaire in the world. It is often referred to as Solitaire. To play, you use one standard deck of 52 cards. From left to right, seven piles of cards are dealt. The first card is turned up, then sequentially in separate piles, cards are turned face town in columns of one through six. Then one card is placed face up at the bottom of each column.
The goal is to create four piles of foundations that go in ascending order starting with the Ace. That means each suit will have its own pile. To do that you shift and maneuver cards on the piles in descending order of the opposite color that precedes it. So, if you have a 10 of hearts, you can put either black 9 card on it and then either red 8 and so forth.
There are a few different ways you can deal out the draw pile (which is the rest of the cards not dealt), and the important thing to realize is that you should stay consistent in how you do that. In any of the ways after you have placed the final up card on the piles or foundations you can continue to try to place each card that follows the up card.
- Deal three cards at once, going through the deck three times or an unlimited number of times, though eventually there will be no possible moves.
- Turning one card at a time and going through the deck only once or with no limits
- If there are no moves left, then you allow yourself one "cheat", which lets you pick one card from the deck to place on the piles.
More Single Player Card Games
- Pyramid or Solitaire 13. Using one deck of cards deal them into a pyramid starting with one card at the top, then two in the next row and so on until you have seven cards in the last row. The goal is to remove cards from the pyramid until it's gone and to do that, the value of two cards must equal 13. Aces are 1 point, Jacks are 11, Queens are 12, and Kings are automatically 13. The draw pile can be removed one card at a time or in sets of three, however you wish to play.
- Baker's Dozen is one of the easier solitaire games to pick up and play and is close to the Klondike game. Deal four rows of 13 cards, with each row overlapping the one above it. Whichever column the Kings are in, move them to the bottom of that column. Your goal is to create four foundations in ascending order starting with Ace (just like Klondike). Cards that you move to the foundation must have been exposed in the main gameplay. To shift cards around, you are able to play cards to other columns regardless of suit or color.
