Transformers Robot Fighters Game

From LoveToKnow BoardGames

The Transformers Robot Fighters game is based on the similar robot fighter game that pits two robots against each other that are controlled by two players. This version uses two characters from the Transformer's movie universe, Optimus Prime and Megatron. If you like transformers and chess, there is a chess set based on the characters. Also try Transformer Risk.

Contents of the Box

  • Two Transformer action figures
  • Two bases
  • Decorative stickers

Setup

It only takes a few minutes to set up the game. The two action figures, Optimus Prime and Megatron, first need to be attached to the base, where they will move and perform fighting maneuvers. Other than that, there are some stickers that need to be affixed, if you want the figures to resemble their cartoon counterparts, but that only takes seconds so don't worry there.

Transformers Robot Fighters Game Play

When Prime and Megatron are ready to go, combatants use the base to make their action figures punch and kick each other. There are two ways to win: the first is being the first to hit your opponent five times, which is tracked by a meter on respective bases. The other way to win is to knock your opponent's character off the base. To do that, you have to hit the chest plate on Optimus Prime or Megatron.

Construction

Both bases are light and can be moved quickly for varying strategies. You can control the robots if you have small or large hands, so everyone can get involved. The robots move at the hips and shoulders so punches are straight-armed and kicks are straight-legged, which would look unnatural on a human but seem fine for the robots. The actual action figures can be separated from the base to stand on their own when not in use. If you have a large Transformer collection, the detailed Optimus Prime and Megatron will look right at home with the others.

Negatives

It's possible that boredom could set in if played for extend periods of time. There's only so much punching and kicking you can do; there's no variation and little strategy to getting five hits or punching the chest plate.

The chest plate is a little small for a decent target. Sometimes it's easier to give up on that and just get those five hits. It may be hard to hit because of the limited motion of the arms and legs.

Optimus Prime appears to be easier to knock off. This might be because he feels lighter. If they are both attached correctly, then both characters should have equal chances to win.

Positives

The Transformers Robot Fighters game is very easy to setup. Four clicks, pop on some stickers, and you (or your kids) are ready to fight!

The game is easy to play. Get five hits or hit the target plate and you win. Simple.

The action figures double as fighters on the base or as separate action figures. They are very good representations of the movie characters they are based on, so kids will have fun playing with them as fighters or as part of a collection.

You don't need batteries! All the power is supplied by hands and forearms.

Where To Buy the Game

Even though Transformers the movie has been out of the theatre for a year, the franchise is still popular, and most major retailers like Target and Walmart still carry the Transformers Robot Fighters game. Even though most licensed merchandise of Transformers was hard to find around the release of the first movie, you can find just about any product that was released in conjunction with the movie now. Although you should expect another surge when the sequel, Transformers 2 is released.

Amazon is another popular way to get this game, but you might stay away from eBay because you might overpay when you can find it inexpensively at normal shopping outlets. And, why wait when you can get your kids fighting for the fate of Cybertron now rather than in a week?
